The D1524R Refrigerated Centrifuge and the Cold-Chain Gap in Molecular Labs

D1524R High Speed Refrigerated Centrifuge

Temperature control between room temperature and 4°C shapes how laboratories handle nucleic acids, proteins and viable cells. The D1524R states a −20°C to 40°C range with a seven-minute pre-cool from ambient to 4°C.

A centrifuge that reaches 15,000rpm sits at the benchtop endpoint of PCR, plasmid extraction and protein work. The D1524R pairs that speed with 21,380×g maximum RCF and a 30-second to 99-minute timer, including continuous HOLD running.

Its five stated rotor formats cover 0.2mL, 0.5mL and 1.5/2mL tubes, PCR strips, and both conical- and round-bottom 5mL tubes. Three-layer sealed rotors and an imbalance alarm address the aerosol and vibration risks that high-speed spinning creates.

Nine acceleration and deceleration levels allow gentler braking at low speed, which matters when a pellet is loosely formed. Ten program slots and a pulse mode support repeatable protocols across operators and shifts.

The aluminum alloy rotor is listed as autoclavable at 121°C, and an external condensation tank is intended to limit water buildup inside the chamber. Both are maintenance-relevant details rather than marketing claims.

Certification is stated as CE, UKCA, FCC, ICES, CB and cTUVus, with 100–120V or 200–240V single-phase input. Buyers in biopharma, IVD, CRO/CDMO, hospital and CDC labs should confirm that the specific rotor configuration they need appears on the certificate and in the supplied documentation.

For procurement, the open questions are rotor availability, autoclavability records, and service access for the refrigeration system. A centrifuge is a long-lived asset; the rotor set and cold-side maintenance determine its useful life more than the headline speed.

Why it matters:
Temperature-sensitive separations fail silently when cooling is inadequate. Verifying pre-cool performance, rotor sealing and local service support before purchase is more useful than comparing top speeds.
